KERRANG contents page analysis

- The content description is kept to minimum, with a minority of text to show whose on what page. This is one of their key house styles, the small number of descriptions with larger, more prominent pictures helps reflect the life style of the potential demographic for this magazine. This is an important thing to try to achieve as the demographic is a very focused one, it seems to be that you either love this mag, or you hate it.
- There are 3 main colours used throughout this page (red, black and yellow), this is within convention. The 3 colours chosen all reflect danger; again this is focused around trying to appeal to their demographic psychologically.
- The editors side notes also appear upon this page, as well as the list of members involved in making the issue. Because of this, the text to pictures ratio is greatly evened out, further more the way it is styled causes us to separate that section of the page, and in some ways neglect it completely.
 - The typography used for the title of the page is not all that prominent at first glance. Although as you read over page it becomes a prominent feature, ‘learn to fly (through the mag)’ is a funny little line to open up the mag and set the tone for the rest of the issue, and relates back to one of the well-known foo fighters songs (of which Dave Grohl is the frontman).
 - The centre image for the magazine is of Dave Grohl, it is taken from well below his eye level and has a slight amount of noise to the picture. It was clearly taken mid gig making it all the more powerful and energetic. The fact he is eye line is well above the placement of the camera connotes his importance, superior stature and over powering sense that he truly is ‘a rock god.’
 - The lay out of the columns is essential for the singular reason that it creates order, it leads us through the literal contents of the mag to create ease and comfort for the readers. Furthermore the positioning of the images further exaggerates those points. This is all done with the basic aim to assist the reader, when they pick up the magazine they want to feel as though they will relax, unwind and mainly enjoy what it is the magazine is focused on, in this case it being music.
- The colours chosen to separate the page numbers, feature articles and the content headings are all put in different colours and slightly different typography , this is again creates separation for ease of use and to create the basic order needed in a functional contents page.
